The Exhibition
Algeria is one of the leading producers of dates (4th place in the world, 14% of the world’s date production) with production that continues to grow from 600,096 tonnes in 2012 to 1,100,000 tonnes in 2017 ( all varieties combined), but only 54 varieties out of the 360 existing varieties are placed in the national and international markets, mainly Deglet Nour (high quality dates), Degla Beida (white dates) and Ghars (dates paste).
Thousands of tons of dates remain under-valued and even unused, which can exceed 30% of total production of dates. This is mainly due to the delay in the date processing technology.
In the past years, major efforts have been made in terms of date processing, particularly through investments and the creation of modern factories specializing in date processing.
About 20 companies activating in the field of transformation of dates were registered in 2015. This number has increased significantly and has increased in 2017 to more than 80 companies in different Wilayas of Algeria in order to obtain derived products from dates such as: date sugar, honey, filled dates, date vinegar, date flour, date coffee…
These investments are a revealing element of the trends of date processing in Algeria.
The main aim of this project is to unify these approaches, establish a synergy between the different sectors and benefit from each other’s experiences and skills in order to promote the development of the Algerian date.
The Ziban Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry organize the 3rd edition of the International Exhibition of Biskra Dates “SIDABTECH” from 02nd to 04th December, 2017.
